Yuletide letter
Dear Yuletide Writer
Thank you so much for offering to write in one of my fandoms and I’m really looking forward to reading whatever story you write. This is my first Yuletide and I’m so excited. As you can see I have requested three book fandoms, the first is a single book, the second two books and the third is a series of, let me see, 18 books now. I will be incredibly happy with whatever story you are inspired to write about these fandoms and characters, but here are my prompts and some additional information in case that helps.
My likes and dislikes
I like character based stories and also crossovers and alternate universes. I enjoy gen, het, slash equally with a slight preference for het when it comes to explicit stories. I love friends turning into lovers and how they got together stories, but they don't have to end with happily ever after (but I don't mind if they do). I like reading about fight sex and awkward first, second or even twenty-seventh time sex. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters). I love female characters (although you wouldn’t necessarily realise that from my prompts) so I would be very sad if they were completely sidelined. I love stories with a strong sense of place. I like canon pairings and obscure canon details. I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I haven't written much fic yet but my delicious recs are here.
I don't like torture fic and anything involving injuries to limbs. And I prefer not to read incest or threesomes (although there are exceptions). I also have a major embarrassment and humiliation squick.
Jennifer Crusie – Welcome to Temptation – Phinn/Sophie/Dillie
What I’d really love would be Dillie carrying out a con, possibly on schoolmates or Phinn. Is it successful or not? But I’d be very happy with a story about the family or Dillie’s view of Phinn and Sophie’s relationship, or Phinn/Sophie sexytimes. Inclusion of movie quotes would be the icing on the cake.
This book makes me smile every time I read it (and my happy icon features the UK cover). What I love about it – The cons. The bear. Dove Bars and Dusty. The secret scandals. The loose women. The sense of family running through all Jenny Crusie’s stories (you are welcome to bring in characters from the sequel Faking It if that helps). There is a summary, an extract and a deleted scene from the sequel involving Sophie and Dillie. I’m sure if you write this there’ll be ‘nothing but good times ahead’.
Diana Wynne Jones – Magid verse – Nick Mallory
I am a huge fan of Nick and I would adore anything involving him, gen, het or slash. His first assignment as a magid. Having to baby sit all the V. Venables girls. Someone experiencing Nick waking up for the first time. His first visit to the Empire. Or just Nick watching any character of your choice, I love his particularly self-centred point of view.
Nick Mallory stole the show at the end of Deep Secret and I mean it when I say that I’d love reading anything about Nick. Deep Secret is one of my comfort reads and I'm much more familiar with it than the Merlin Conspiracy, so feel free to stick to the first book. I love the juxtaposition of real life and the fantasy in this book and the strong sense of place in the parts set in Bristol. I adore DWJ’s sense of humour and her dysfunctional families. There is a lj community
dianawynnejones and more information about her books here.Elizabeth Peters – Amelia Peabody series – Ramses Emerson/David Todros
I’d really like some Ramses/David slash. How and when did the relationship develop? What almost made it fall apart? However, if that is not your cup of tea, a gen story centred on either character (my personal definition of gen includes canon pairings, and I am fond of both Nefret and Lia), or a friendship story would be awesome.
I love the early 20th Century setting of the later books and the background of the Great War. I would like either a funny story or a more serious one. This canon can accommodate both. I love the older Ramses and his conflict with his ideals and the actions of the world around him. I’m interested in the obstacles between Ramses and David’s friendship from the outside world, be they race or politics. Or maybe a lighter story about their summer with Sheik Mohammed. And I forgot to mention in the prompt that a story about David’s relationship with Lia would also be great (we don’t see enough of it in the books). There are extracts and some extra information like time lines at Amelia Peabody.com and lots of information on Wikipedia.
I just want to reiterate that I would love pretty much anything involving those characters, so feel free to ignore my prompts and go for something that inspires you. Again thank you so much for writing this and I hope that you have fun with it.
